The National Caretaker Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has cleared the former chairman of the party’s Board of Trustees (BoT), Chief Tony Anenih, of anti-party activities during the last presidential and state elections.
In a letter dated May 19, 2015 and signed by former National Secretary of the PDP, Professor Wale Oladipo, Anenih was accused by the defunct National Working Committee (NWC) of anti-party activities in Imo State during the last presidential and state elections.
The former BoT chairman was also requested to appear before the then NWC on the same issue.
But in a letter, Secretary to the Caretaker Committee, Senator Ben Obi, said, having heard from Anenih, and after some consultations, the committee has reviewed the whole episode and decided to withdraw the said letter written by the defunct National Working Committee.
Chairman of the Caretaker Committee, Senator Ahmed Makarfi in the letter, thanked Anenih for appearing before the committee to finally clear all issues relating to the matter and for remaining steadfast as a leader of the party and a foundation member of the BoT despite the discomfort the said letter may have caused him.
He said: “We respectfully urge you to consider whatever discomfort caused by this issue as part of your continuing sacrifice towards building our great party, the PDP”.
In his reply to the letter, Anenih said: “I am glad that your leadership has now been able to redress the issue more than a year after. It was as a consequence of this blatant unfairness and other similar disappointing developments following the loss of our party in the Presidential Election, that I was compelled to resign from office by the leadership of the party.”
He expressed belief in the leadership of the National Caretaker Committee and the process it has embarked upon which will lead to positive results, one of which is victory in the September 10, 2016 gubernatorial election in Edo State.
