The National Caretaker Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has accused the factional National Chairman of the party, Senator Ali Modu Sheriff of claiming victory ahead of the Appeal Court judgment on the leadership tussle in the party.
In a statement issued by its National Publicity Secretary, Prince Dayo Adeyeye, the Caretaker Committee described the alleged claim by the Sheriff-led group in the yet to be delivered judgment as an assault on the integrity of the judiciary. It reads in part: “Sherriff and his cohorts have been boasting that they have the Appeal Panel in their pocket and that the yet to be delivered judgment is in their favour. We regard this as another direct assault on the reputation and integrity of the judiciary by these desperadoes.”
The Caretaker Committee, however, restated its confidence in the integrity of the judiciary to ensure fairness to all parties concerned. It added: “On our part, we hold the Judiciary as a sacred institution whose integrity, reputation and independence must be respected and protected.”
“We would never do anything to denigrate the judiciary no matter what. The greatest weapon of the judiciary in fighting these charlatans is to continue to do justice to all manner of people in all places and in all cases.”
