A senior member of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief Sam Nkire said there is no cause for alarm over the seeming political gains recently made by the opposition party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Reacting to his party’s loss at the senatorial by-election in Osun State as well as the Supreme Court ruling ending the leadership crisis in the PDP, Nkire said the events only called for more work and a change in strategy.
Nkire warned that the PDP would be making a grave mistake to believe that the outcome of the recent senatorial election in Osun was an indication of “the shape of things to come in the state in 2019.”
The APC chieftain added that the obvious fact that the President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration was not meddling with the affairs of either the electoral or judicial system, was an evidence that change has really come to Nigeria.
He said as a party that preaches and practices change in all facets of the society, the APC would always respect and accept election results as well as court rulings, adding that, “it is too early in the day for PDP to celebrate.”
Nkire said the APC has won more by-elections and has recovered more seats through the courts than PDP and other political parties put together and therefore, urged all APC members to remain focused and resolute in the task of changing the country for the better.
