The People’s Democratic Party’s (PDP) presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, is comfortably leading in early results announced, yesterday, by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for some local government areas in Enugu State, in the presidential election held on Saturday.

In Enugu South Council, the INEC collation officer, Prof. Paul Onwuasoanya, declared that PDP polled 25,631 votes, while APC polled 2,350 votes.

In Aninri Local Government Area, the results declared by INEC’s collation officer, Dr. Kasie Ugwu, showed that PDP polled 19,062 votes, while APC polled 1,462 votes.

In Ezeagu Local Government Area, the INEC collation officer, Dr. Jonas Ejike Uroko, declared that PDP polled 15,526 votes, while APC polled 3,103 votes.

In Enugu North Local Government Area, Prof. Nnanyelugo Okoro, the INEC collation officer, declared that PDP polled 24,921 votes out of 29,611 votes cast, while APC polled 1,825 votes.  More results from local government areas were being awaited at the time of filing this report.

Meanwhile, the state chapter of the PDP has commended INEC and security agencies for the free, fair, credible, and peaceful conduct of Saturday’s elections.

The party, in a statement issued, yesterday, signed by the Chairman, Chief Augustine Nnamani, also commended the neutral and professional conduct of INEC officials, security agencies, various monitoring teams and observers in the state.

“We, particularly, commend them for disappointing certain characters, who, rather than embark on robust campaigns like the PDP, spent their precious time plotting and bragging about how they would misapply critical institutions of democracy to intimidate voters and manipulate the elections.”
