Jigawa House of Assembly yesterday extended the tenure of the state’s 27 local government caretaker committees by six months just as the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has declared the action as illegal.
Speaker Idris Garba approved a bill to amend the 2015 local government administration law at yesterday’s plenary, which allows caretaker chairmen remain in office for  six more months.
Deputy Chief Whip,  Bala Hamza Gada moved the motion which was supported by majority in the member.
Aminu Sankara seconded the motion and explained that the tenure was extended due to the present economic situation as the state government cannot afford to conduct a local government election now.
Earlier, the State Government postponed local government election and nominated 27 care-takers chairmen committee to run council affairs for six months which terminated this month of september and has been renewed for another six months.
The PDP kicked against the move and declared the local government caretakers as illegitimate and has threatened to go to court.
