Ondo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has said that the emergence of Uche Secondus as the National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has turned it into a regional party.
The Publicity Secretary of the party, Mr Abayomi Adesanya who faulted
the manner through which Secondus emerged noted that the last national elective convention of the PDP was a show of shame.
He said in a statement issued yesterday that “former President
Goodluck Jonathan has succeeded in hijacking the PDP from its founding fathers, with the help of his allies including Governors Ayo Fayose
and Nyeson Wike for selfish interest.”
His words “It is on record that the singular action of ex President
Jonathan in the build up to the 2015 general elections to impose
himself on PDP, when he prevailed on the leadership of the Party to
print only one presidential nomination form solely for himself was the hammer that finally nail PDP’s coffin.
“The final funeral outing took place during the just concluded
December 9 national convention of the party.
“The former President disenfranchised other prospective aspirants from
exercising their franchise in the 2014 PDP presidential primary. It is
obvious to the whole world that PDP lacks internal democracy,
vis-a-vis the outcome of its December 9 national elective convention.
“It is crystal clear to Nigerians that the “Leopard” of PDP can never
change its skin. The so called convention was characterized by high
level impunity, monetary inducement, corruption and lack of internal
democracy, which have become thorns in PDP’s flesh for so long, and
has inflicted so much injuries on the body polity of Nigerians and the
country during its 16 years rule.
“It is a pity that the once upon a time self acclaimed largest
political party in Africa, could end up in the belly of self-centered
political jobbers from the South-South and South-East,” he added.
He stressed that the country needs a very formidable and viral
opposition political party for a better political development.
