From Agaju Madugba, Katsina
The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Katsina said on Sunday that the Katsina State government declined its request to use the Muhammadu Dikko stadium for the party’s presidential rally scheduled for Tuesday.
“On two occasions, we applied to use the stadium for the rally of our presidential candidate, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, and twice the All Progressives Congress government refused,” the Director-General, Katsina PDP Campaign Council, Alhaji Mustapha Muhammed Inuwa, said at a press briefing.
According to him, “the PDP government built that stadium for the use of the entire people of Katsina and Nigeria but because the APC is currently in power, they refused to allow us use it on a flimsy excuse that they are carrying out certain repairs.”
He said that the rally would hold at the old polo ground regretting that there may be traffic gridlock that day due to repairs of some access roads to the polo ground,” as there will be about 4,000 vehicles on the entourage of the presidential candidate.”
According to Inuwa, Atiku will on arrival in Katsina pay a homage visit on the Emir as well as visit Hajiya Dada, mother of late President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua before proceeding to the venue of the rally.
He said that Atiku was also expected to visit the Emir of Daura in the course of his campaign tour of the state.
