The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) yesterday said it was ready for its primary election tomorrow, Monday for the November 18 Anambra state governorship election.

Chairman of the State Caretaker Committee, Prof. ABC Nwosu who disclosed this to newsmen during a press briefing in Awka said the party had made detailed preparations for the exercise just as he denied allegations of compromise by his committee.

Also yesterday, the chairman of the Primary Election Committee and Governor of Ebonyi State, Engr. Dave Umahi and three of his members arrived the state and went into a meeting with the aspirants, Elders Committee of the party and the State Caretaker Committee members.

Prof. Nwosu told newsmen that his committee had made adequate arrangements to ensure peace in the process and urged party faithful to come to the election as a family event.

He said, “We are in detailed preparation to hold very good primary on Monday for the emergence of our governorship candidate. We have arranged two venues, one for accreditation and one for voting.

“We have made adequate security arrangement to ensure there is no breach of peace even though we don’t anticipate there will be breach of peace.” 

“All the arrangements for identification, accreditation and voting are undertaken under security cover to make sure there is no leakage and we expect that the PDP Anambra state shall pick a gubernatorial candidate that will be pleasing to the people of the state and be able to defeat the incumbent governor.”

On the allegation of compromise he said, “PDP has three procedures, first, it chooses three-man delegates, which was done last Monday by the Gov. Wike’s Committee. The panel was set up by the national. We were not active in that. After that ,there was an appeal panel led by Prof. Chigozie Ogbu, who sat at the secretariat and listened to complaints that rose from the ward congress. The third is the Governor Dave Umahi panel which will conduct the Monday party primary.”
