The Independent National Electoral Commission INEC has declared the candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Mr Dominic Bukuni, as the winner of the Taraba State House of Assembly supplementary election for Ardo Kola state constituency held on Saturday.

Bukuni polled a total of 22,583 votes to defeat the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Mr Aliyu Muhammed, who polled 19,408 votes.

Dr.  Ezekiel Iliya who served as the returning officer for the election, said that “Mr Dominic Bukuni, having satisfied the requirements of the law and having polled the highest number of votes in the Ardo Kola state constituency election, is hereby declared winner of the said election and returned elected.”

Meanwhile, one person has been confirmed dead and several injured as violence erupted in Ussa Local Government Area in the course of the supplementary election for the Ussa state constituency.

Vice Chairman of Ussa Local Government Area, Mr Joshua  Rikupki, who confirmed the development however assured that “the situation is now calm and the collation of results from the supplementary election which held in some units in the constituency is going on as planned.”

Rikupki condemned the violence and urged security agencies to make sure that those behind the unfortunate development were brought to book, while calling on politicians to see politics as service to the people and not a call to war.

As at the time of filling this report, collation of results from the supplementary election for the Ussa state constituency was yet to be completed.
