Protect Nigeria, a non-governmental organisation, has warned that the planned rejection of the results of the 2019 election by the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) is a recipe for crisis.

National Secretary of the group Dr. Abdulwahab Ehidik, said that many should be concerned about statements credited to the National Chairman of the PDP, Prince Uche Secondus that the party would reject the outcome of the election.

The group in a statement said: “It is with a deep sense of shock, patriotism, and commitment that we have to issue this press statement, at a time when Nigerians are hopeful and looking for a better future.”

It stressed that “it is not just shocking but irresponsible that the National Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party, Uche Secondus, declared a rejection in totality, of the results been announced, of the 2019 presidential elections.

“This was motivated by ill intentions. And perhaps the PDP has sensed an apparent failure in the 2019 general elections. We believe that anybody who begins to doubt the general credibility of the elections, not a few incidents announced and acknowledged by INEC and its officials, is up to some negative exercise. The PDP and its officials know the rules of election. “The presidential candidate of the PDP, former Vice President, his Excellency, Atiku Abubakar, has won elections and was a number two man for eight years.

“Other parties who disagreed with election results both in 2003 and 2006, went to court and pursued what they thought was their rights.

“We, therefore, condemn the stance of the PDP national chairman and call on him to withdraw his statement and apologise to Nigerians and resign his position as the PDP national chairman.

“We believe that is the most honourable thing to do. We also call on the Independent National Electoral Commission, the police and the Department of State Services to initiate arrest and prosecution against anyone who wishes to cost Nigeria of its peaceful existence and the electoral process.”
