Star Education and Leadership Initiative (SELI) has donated pupil’s friendly playground facility to develop cognitive reasoning and learning ability to Assemblies of God Private School, Nassarawa Gwong, Plateau State.
The founder of Star Education and Leadership Initiative (SELI), Esther Mark, who commissioned the playground yesterday, explained that one of the ways children learn and develop easily is through play.
Esther noted that playing helps children think and learn creatively which helps in regulating their emotions.
“Many children are already vulnerable in many ways at home and school and not to play or have structured opportunities to do so is to overburden the soul of a child.”
“Play is not just fun, it is anxiety relieving. It teaches children social skills of negotiation and cooperation. Through play, they develop problem-solving skills as they get to understand the relationship between cause and effect in the world around them. These are skills that will help them navigate life in future.”
She explained further that play also helps children develop cognitive abilities such as language, reasoning and creative skills.
“If we are going to have well-balanced adults in the future, they need to be well-balanced children now. Constructive Play is one of the ways to achieve that.”
She added that the playground was built with support from Play360 and other groups.
The headmistress of the school, Mrs Aderonke Oladele, appreciated the organization for the thoughtful initiative and said it has met the need of the children.
She noted that the pupil will live to appreciate the organization and that the school will remain indebted to the organization.
The headmistress said the facilities on the playground will aid the development of the children.
It was gathered that the child-friendly playground has different game facilities like colourful tire rails, monkey bars, slides, seesaws, and swings.
