Plateau State governor and governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Mr. Simon Bako Lalong has been declared winner of the governorship election in the state.
Lalong polled a total of 595, 582 votes to defeat his closest contender, Senator Jeremiah Useni, candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) who scored 546, 813 votes.
The state Returning Officer and Vice Chancellor of Federal University of Agriculture Markudi, Prof. Richard Anande who declared the result on Sunday morning at the INEC headquarters Jos, said Lalong who scored the highest votes “is hereby declare winner of the governorship election.”
“From the foregoing, Barr Simon Bako Lalong of the APC having satisfied the requirement of law and scored the highest votes is hereby declared the winner of the election.”
Lalong, won in 11 local government areas of the state; he defeated Useni with a margin of 48,769 votes while Useni won in 6 local government areas of the state.
In the supplementary election conducted in 40 polling unit s in 9 Local government areas of the state, the APC candidate, Lalong scored 12,327 votes while Useni scored 8, 487 votes.
Lalong had polled 583, 255 votes in the March 9, 2019 governorship election while Sen. Useni had 538, 326; but the election was declared inconclusive as the margin of victory was less than the total votes cancelled.
