The police, on Tuesday, arraigned a former Governor Jigawa State, Sule Lamido, before a high court in the state for alleged incitement.

Lamido had been in the custody of the Kano state police command since Sunday.

He was brought to the state high court from Kano, where he had spent some nights in detention.

His arrest followed a petition by the Jigawa state government alleging that he was inciting citizens of the state to disrupt the forthcoming local government election.

Lamido has not personally reacted to the allegation.

But the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), his party, has called for his immediate release, accusing the government of stifling freedom of speech.
