A man, who allegedly attacked his wife and mother-in-law with a machete in Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area of Edo State, has been arrested by operatives of the state’s Police Command.

The suspect, identified as Iyen Igiebor, was said to have been repatriated from abroad recently and had to be accommodated by his in-law in the Ikpoba Hill area of Benin, following his inability to secure an accommodation of his own.

It was learnt that an argument had ensued between the suspect and his wife over alleged refusal of the wife to accompany him (suspect) to where he claimed to have found an apartment for rent.

The disagreement reportedly led to divorce between the couple.

Apparently ‎bitter with their separation, Igiebor was said to have attacked the estranged wife with a machete while on her way from the market.

It was learnt that the suspect had attempted to severe the head of his ex-wife but left her with a deep cut in her arm, just as the suspect reportedly‎ cut his mother-in law in the head and face.

Sources said the cries of the women attracted the attention of some neighbours who came to their rescue.

Consequently, the suspect was said to have been arrested by operatives of the Aduwawa police station.

“The woman and the mother were coming back from the market at night, at about 9pm, and did not know that man was waiting for them.

“He wanted to cut off the woman’s head but she defended herself with her hand and sustained a cut. He also injured his mother-in-law”, a source narrated.

The State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Johnson Kokumo, could neither confirm nor deny the report when contcted,
