The Niger State Police Command has arrested 21 kidnappers and cattle rustlers who have terrorized communities in the state in the last one month.

Over 20 communities across five local government areas of the state have come under heavy attacks from armed men suspected to be Fulani Herdsmen, killing over 40 people and inflicting injuries on several others in the last one month.

In addition to this, over 1,500 cattle were stolen and a number of women were either raped or kidnapped by the bandits.

Worried by the escalating cases of cattle rustling and kidnap in the state, the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris recently deployed surveillance helicopter to the state to help the police command on aerial surveillance.

In addition to this, the state police Command also moved the command headquarters to the troubled zones with 300 armed policemen and this, according to the Police Public Relation Officer (PPRO), Bala Elkana is the  beginning  of doomsday for the suspected cattle rustlers.

The Police spokesman  disclosed that “On December 28, at about 10:37 am, based on the strength of information, the Police raided a den of Kidnappers at Tegina, Rafi local government area of the state, where five suspects were arrested and one locally made pistol was recovered.

“On the same date at about 2:00pm, also based on credible intelligence, the Police arrested one of the most wanted Cattle rustlers in the state by name Abdullahi Alhaji Alti of Ejinga Randege, BirninGwari local government area of Kaduna state, at Kagara, Rafi local government area of Niger State”.
