In view of the dead rubber African Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier between the Super Eagles of Nigeria and the Seychelles senior national team, the Delta State Police Command said it has beefed up security within the Asaba capital territory.

The match would be played today at the Stephen Keshi Stadium in Asaba. And on Tuesday, March 26, the Eagles would be taking on the Pharaohs of Egypt, at the same venue in an international friendly match.

Besides, the stadium will host the encounter between the national U-23 team and their Libyan counterparts on Monday, March 26.

As a result, the command said visitors from other African countries were expected in the state; hence the need to strengthen security to safeguard lives.

Spokesman of the command, ASP Chuks Orisewezie in a statement yesterday said the Commissioner of Police, Adeyinka Adeleke had assured of adequate security.

“Operation order has been drawn-up and well trained security personnel deployed to all the nook and crannies of the state, escort provided for the players and officials.

“The deployed personnel have been briefed on the rules of engagement and professional code of conduct in line with international best practices in the discharge of their duties to ensure a hitch-free fiesta.
