A retired Commissioner of Police, General Investigations, Force CID, Abuja, Alhaji Addulganiyu Salami, said the “Police Force is the best profession in the world. Operatives of the Nigeria Police Force are competent to tackle the insecurity challenge in the country.”
He insisted: “Men of the Nigeria Police Force with their experiences and hard work, can handle the insecurity situation in Nigeria.
“Most of the police officers have gone for foreign missions and they did very well. The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Usman Baba Alkali, has done very well in keeping the Nigeria Police as a disciplined force.
“He has done very well in providing operational vehicles to the commands in all the 36 states of the federation. He carried out the training and retraining of officers. He sent them for different courses in and outside the country to enable them perform excellently on their jobs.
“On June 24, 2022, I retired from the police. I came, saw and conquered. I fulfilled my 35 years service in the police. My career had its good, bad and ugly sides. If I come back to another world, I will want to be a police officer.
“The road was rough. Today, I am happy and living happily. I have learnt a lot in the force. I have found out that the Nigeria Police Force is the best. It has taught me to remain patient in this life.
“Today, the, Nigeria Police Force is facing a lot of challenges particularly in the area of equipment that can be used to tackle the insecurity situation. They need to be encouraged and given a well-framed package for officers and the junior ranks facing the bandits terrorising citizens.
“This is the time the Federal Government should rise up to assist the security agencies. They are competent to fight this insecurity in the country. The police, Nigerian Army, NSCDC and Navy should be equipped and it would yield good results.
“I wept today that not all people that joined the police force ended the race. Some died while in service, some left the job while some of us spent 35 years on the job. I give praise to Allah. The job has its ups and downs. We summoned courage and applied patience throughout the race.
“I want serving officers and men to be prayerful, hardworking and accommodating. One day, we might need them. We need to build start preparing for our retirement early enough.”
