No fewer than four persons have been confirmed killed in a renewed crisis that rocked Ogobia town in Ugboju community of Otukpo Local Government Area of Benue State.
The state’s Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), ASP Moses Yamu, who confirmed the killings, on Sunday, disclosed that there was a clash in the same area which claimed the lives of three persons on Saturday night while another person, who was injured in the mayhem, later died on Sunday morning.
”Yes there was a clash that claimed the lives of three persons yesterday night and another injured person gave up today, making four deaths in all. Normalcy has been restored as more patrol teams have been reinforced to the area to support the ones that were there after the August mayhem in that Area,” Yamu stated.
Yamu explained, however, that the police were yet to establish the motive behind the killing but said it may not be unconnected with the earlier crisis that happened in August in which several people including a retired Army Major, and a retired police officer were killed.
“It is likely that yesterday’s clash and killing is connected to what happened in the area recently but we have commenced full investigations with a view to bringing the killers to book,” said the PPRO.
The police image maker who assured that normalcy has been restored in the area however urged the public to provide security agencies with useful information that could lead to the arrest of the killers.
It would be recalled that sometimes in August this year, a crisis which was allegedly sparked by two brothers of same mother, Benjamin Udeh and Ijachi Udeh rocked the Ondo and Ogobia communities of Ugboju in Otukpo Local Government Area of the state.
Although, Governor Samuel Ortom had given a marching order to security operatives to arrest the two brothers for their alleged involvement in the crisis, only one of them, Ijachi was arrested while the other is still at large.
