The Lagos State Police Command has impounded another Bullion van for breach of traffic rules.
The command two weeks ago impounded two bullion vans from the same company for the same offence of traffic rules.
A Police source said the van was impounded for disobeying the Commissioner’s of Police directive. The police source who spoke on the condition of anonymity said :” A bullion van belonging to Bankers warehouse filled with money belonging to many commercial banks in Lagos has been impounded again by Area commander Area “J “ ACP Gbolahan Olugbemi , as of the time of the arrest and impoundment there was no security in the front of the bullion van nor at the back contrary to commissioner of Police lagos State Command Hakeem Odumosu’s directive that every bullion van conveying money must have two escort vehicles :one in the front and one at the back with minimum of four mobile policemen in each escort vehicle, for quite sometimes now , the Nation wide/ international approved standard for specie escort has not been followed especially in Lagos by operators of cash in transit. Lekki Peninsula is known to be high risk area because of it’s geographically location- in between Atlafntic ocean and Lagoon, this made it vulnerable , it was on this background that the Area commander Area “J”ACP Gbolahan Olugbemi, vowed to enforce Lagos state commissioner of Police directive to the latter on specie escort, true to his words, this is making it third bullion van that would be impounded under his command, according to him,he needs to guide against what will bring embarrassment to command and to Nigeria police in general”.
