THE Akwa Ibom State Po­lice Command has arrested a three-man gang that cajoled, hypnotised and raped a Univer­sity of Uyo (UNIUYO) student (names withheld).

While parading the suspects, James Etim, Utibe Archibong and Mberebong Peter, the state Police spokesperson, Miss Cordelia Nwawe, said: “A three-man gang was arrested on June 11, 2016. They picked women in a tricycle within Uyo and rape them. This is a crime we con­sider an affront on humanity be­cause when you are engaged in sex with another person with­out her consent, it is rape.”

Daily Sun learnt that the gang would pick girls disguising as tricycle operators even as other passengers were members.

One of the supposed pas­sengers would pretend to be a foreigner who came into the country to sell goods. He would ask for help from other passen­gers to assist him sell the goods, promising to give them laptops and phones in return. Once the victim indicates interest, she would be taken to an unknown destination.
