The Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), Ogun State Police Command, has rounded up over 40 suspected armed robbers and kidnappers. It also recovered stolen cars and 15 arms and ammunition in the Ijebu-Ode axis.

Commissioner of Police, Mr. Ahmed Illiyasu, told Daily Sun: “I ordered the SARS commander, Uba Adams, with his operatives to go after the criminals and the operation took them three days to accomplish.”

Adams said that the suspects had been terrorizing residents of Ijebu-Ode and environs: “We were able to burst the hideout, arrested 15 suspects and recovered 10 arms and ammunition as well as charms from them.”

The CP said the command has mapped out some strategies for “ember” months: “We have deployed SARS operatives, Federal Safer Highway and PMF 16 to black spots on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway. We will carry out constant raids to flush out the hoodlums. We need the assistance of members of the public for information in this regard.

“The Strategies Strike Unit and the Intelligence Unit with SARS operatives are to cover the Ore/Ijebu-Ode Expressway. We arrested another 10 suspects who robbed passengers on the expressway. A stolen car was recovered from the operation.

“Some suspects who specialised in attacking Okada riders within Ibafo/Owode axis were arrested. We also arrested some suspected kidnappers another operation. They confessed on how they collected N900,000 from the relatives of the victim before they were arrested.”

Illiyasu vowed that the “command is ready to assist the public wherever they see strange things. They should quickly inform the police so that we can clampdown the hoodlums. We need the support of the public to work together for the state to be peaceful and crime free.
