Police in Ogun State has arrested a 29-year-old man, Owolabi Folorunso Adewale, for allegedly butchering his nonagenarian aunt to death.

The suspect was arrested on Monday for culpable homicide following a distress call received by the DPO in charge of Ago-Iwoye Divisional headquarters, CSP Ade Adedoyin, that one Owolabi had butchered his aged aunt, Ebunola Aroboto, who resided at Maraisa Lane, Igan Road Ago-Iwoye, in Ijebu North Local Government Area of the state.

According to a statement by the spokesperson of the Ogun State police command, Abimbola Oyeyemi, on Tuesday, the DPO, on receiving the distress call, quickly led his detectives to the scene where the suspect was promptly arrested.

The machete used by the suspect to hack the victim to death was also recovered.

On interrogation, the suspect admitted killing the old woman, claiming he suspected the victim was responsible for the spiritual problems he had encountered.

The suspect, Oyeyemi, also claimed his aunt always used his “supernatural power” to block him from winning anytime he played lotto.

The body of the deceased has been deposited at the morgue of Ijebu-Ode General Hospital for post mortem.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police in the state, Ahmed Iliyasu, has directed the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID) DCP Wale Abass, to take over the investigation of the case and see to the diligent prosecution of the suspect.
