TWO suspected militants, Okorotie Jakpany (31) and Jerome Fiye (21) have been paraded by the Delta State Police Command over alleged involvement in the murder of some naval officers.

The suspects who hail from Egberigbere community and Ekeremo community both in Bayelsa State were arrested by operatives of Special Anti-Kidnapping Squad who acted on a tip-off.

Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr. Ibrahim Zanna who paraded the suspected militants and other suspects arrested for various crimes he stead in Asaba, told newsmen that the matter was still under investigation.

According to Mr. Zanna, seven of the suspects were arrested for allegedly vandalizing pipelines at Obi-Ayaga village in Ughelli South Local Government Area of the state.

He gave the names of the suspects as Umaru Amoru (19), Jibril Saidu (25), Abdul Mohammed (20), Usman Onga (20), Isah Alli (21), Useni Alli (27) and Dahiru Usman (21), adding that two DAF trucks with registration number Lagos XQ 569 KSF and Nasarawa KRV 943 ZN were recovered.

Zanna said his men had received information that bunkering activities were going on in the community and swiftly drafted “Dragon patrol team 16 and 18 to the scene where they observed three trucks, some speed boats/barges and large number of community youths.”

Meanwhile, the command has formally launched a new anti-crime outfit tagged “Operation Eagle Net” to complement existing outfits in the state in the fight against armed robbery, kidnapping and other forms of criminality.

Launching the outfit in Asaba yesterday, Mr. Zanna said it was part of the command’s “untiring strategies to ensure that criminals, especially of heinous crimes, are wiped out of, or driven from, the state” for residents to live in peace and safety.

“Let all criminals beware because henceforth there is no more place to hide in Delta for the eyes of the Eagle can see from afar when in search of its prey,” he told journalists.
