Police have surrounded the premises of the Bauchi State House of Assembly following a failed attempt by hoodlums to burn the complex today.

The scary incident is coming barely four days after 22 members of the State Assembly unanimously passed a vote of no confidence on the Speaker, Rt Hon Abubakar Sulaiman and other principal officers of the House.

Checks by our Correspondent revealed that police personnel took over the Complex of the Assembly following the invasion of the premises by unidentified hoodlums on Monday morning.

It was learned that the hoodlums were bent on frustrating moves by aggrieved lawmakers to formally present a new Speaker.

Police waded in to prevent chaos and destruction of property at the Assembly Complex.

The invaders were allegedly on a mission to burn the Assembly.

The Special Adviser to the Bauchi State Governor on State and National Assembly Laison, Sani Mohammed Bura, confirmed that security personnel mainly comprising the police took over the State Assembly to avoid breakdown of law and order

A reliable source who confided in our Correspondent saud that the aggrieved members, who passed a vote of no confidence on the Speaker and principal officers, have elected a new Speaker and principal officers.
