Tragedy struck the Imo State Police Command when one of the newly established squad in the state, ‘The Ambassadors’ inadvertently ambushed their colleagues, killing one and injuring four others.

It was learnt that the Ambassadors Squad, led by one Inspector Chikadia Okebata, popularly known as Kill and Bury, had on Wednesday inadvertently ambushed their colleagues from the Surveillance Team, along the Agwa- Ejemenekuru Road in Oguta Local Government Area of Imo State.

Okebeta and his team had engaged the Surveillance Team, shooting and killing an Inspector in the process.  The Surveillance Team, it was learnt, was on patrol along the axis before they ran into the ambush and in the process Inspector Iseke Korodama was killed on the spot while Inspector Saviour Isong, Inspector Samuel Chukwuekezi and Sergeant Okija Darlington were injured in the attack.  The driver conveying the team in a mini bus  (BusImo) before the attack, Emmanuel Onyemana Chimankpa, a civilian, is still in critical condition.

A reliable source who does not want his name mentioned, however disclosed that late Korodama and the driver were rushed to the hospital same Wednesday night. While the Inspector was pronounced dead on arrival, the driver was treated and allowed to go on Thursday.

The source said the injured officers – Saviour Isong, Samuel Chukwuekezi and Okija Darlington came to the clinic on Thursday, were treated for their injuries and discharged same day.  Police spokesman, in the state, Michael Abbattam, a Chief Superintendent of Police, had yet to respond to inquiries by our correspondent at the time of filing this story.
