Obinna Odogwu, Abakaliki

The Director General of Senator Sonni Ogbuoji Campaign Council, Senator Anthony Agbo, has accused the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ebonyi State, Senator Sonni Ogbuoji, of being responsible for the abysmal performance of the party in the state in the 2019 general elections.

He described the party’s governorship candidate as the architect of his own failure, saying he did not show any active involvement as someone facing an important electoral exercise.

At a press conference in Abakaliki, the state capital, the DG said that the explanation had become necessary in order to lay to rest series of questions and allegations being bandied around by some party faithful over what led to the party’s poor outing at the polls. The former lawmaker, who represented Ebonyi North Senatorial zone in the National Assembly, said that upon their inauguration by the governorship candidate, the campaign council hit the ground running but was not given anything to work with.

Agbo said: “The Council sat down to produce a comprehensive and detailed campaign blueprint which captured activities that were to be carried out at local government, wards, communities, villages as well as individual contacts and consultations. Very moderate financial costs were attached.

“This was presented to our governorship candidate, Sen. Ogbuoji who told us that he was pre-occupied with arranging issues relating to the election at Abuja level and that we should keep it in view.”
