WOLE BALOGUN, Ado Ekiti

The All Progressives Congress and the People’s Democratic Party in Ekiti State have reacted to the sudden postponement of the general elections by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

While the Director-General of APC campaign council, Olusegun Osinkolu, said it was disappointing for INEC to postpone the polls at such time, Chairman of the Atiku/Obi campaign council and the immediate past Deputy Governor of the state, Olusola Kolapo Eleka, has said that the development would bring goodluck for his party, urging Nigerians and the party to remain resolute in their determination to unseat President Muhammadu Buhari.

Osinkolu said: “Though, we feel highly disappointed by this action but we will take it with calmness if INEC goes ahead and conduct credible polls next week.

“We had campaigned hard and set for the elections only to hear that it has been shifted. We are pained because we are set for victory in these elections.

“Many people travelled from Lagos and other part of the country to Ekiti to vote in the elections. How feasible is their participation in these elections if they decide to return to their bases on Monday?

Also reacting to the development via a telephone call on Saturday, Eleka said: “All things work together for good for those that love God; I believe this sudden postponement will work for our good in PDP. They (APC and FG) may have their own plans but irrespective of their plans, we trust God that all things will work for good for the PDP in Nigeria.

“I plead with all Nigerians and the teeming supporters of our party to be resolute in their determination to unseat Buhari and ensure that they vote Atiku as the next president. They should not allow themselves to be intimidated or harassed as we have seen some using the ruling government apparatus to harass our candidates for the House of Representatives in Ikere Ekiti and Igbara Odo l with some of their aides detained and I don’t think they have been released till now.

“Buhari has said that nobody can unseat him but God can unseat him. And it is time for him to leave. I believe that the INEC is an agency of the Federal government; they are independent but at the same time the Federal government should be concerned about what is happening. We don’t know the basic issues involved but for INEC to have postponed this election shows that they are not prepared for this poll,” he said.

Osinkolu, however, urged the APC members not to be disillusioned by the action, urging them to return to the field and campaign hard for President Buhari and VP Osinbajo and other National Assembly candidates in Ekiti to emerge victorious.
