Okwe Obi, Abuja

Ministries, Departments and Agencies, yesterday, recorded low turnout of workers as some were said to have travelled to participate in elections.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC)  shifted the elections due to what it described as ‘logistic challenges’ and inclement weather.

At about 9:00am, yesterday, the bubbling Federal Secretariat was scanty while those who came to work arrived around 10:22am. It was awhile before they settled down for work because some were seen milling around, discussing the postponement of the election.

A civil servant in the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, told Daily Sun that he doubted the possibility of workers coming back to work until after the election.

“The place is scanty because some people travelled to cast their votes. But, since the election was postponed, most of them decided to stay back.

“You don’t expect them to spend transport to Abuja and return to their polling centres while some are far from the Federal Capital Territory,” she said.

The story was not different at the Ministry of Water Resources as only cleaners and security personnel were seen at their duty posts and a handful of workers.

“INEC should be blamed for what is happening. Some of my colleagues travelled to their states to vote.

“And, you do not expect them to run back simply because the election was postponed,” the staff, who declined to be named, said.

As at 3:00pm, when Daily Sun visited the federal secretariat, workers were already heading home, flouting the 4:oopm official closing time.
