Acting Inspector General of Police Mohammed, Adamu Abubakar, has warned that the security agencies will be rootless against unscrupulous elements planning to disrupt this weekend’s governorship and state Houses of Assembly elections.

This is even as the National Security Adviser revealed that he had deployed several secret agents for the first time across the 36 states of the federation to ensure that this weekend’s polls are conducted in a largely peaceful atmosphere, in accordance with the security report that some hoodlums were planning to disrupt the election.

Speaking separately during the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security (ICCES), meeting, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) chairman, Mahmood Yakubu, equally warned that the commission would not only refuse to issue a certificate of return to any candidate who holds any INEC staff hostage to sign results but will also cancel the polling unit election outrightly.

Handing over the warning, the IGP said: “The presidential election has been largely peaceful as a result of the hard work done through the cooperation and collaboration of all the security agencies and the INEC. This cooperation will continue and I believe that it will lead us to success in the forthcoming election.

“The security arrangements we provided during the presidential election are still in place. We have reviewed what we have done and seen where needed improvement.”
