by Vera Wsidom-Bassey
The Prelate of Methodist Church of Nigeria, Prelate Chukwuemeka Uche has called on Christians in Nigeria to take this period of lent very seriously and pray so that coronavirus will be eliminated from the country.
He made this known during an interview with Sunday sun, he urged them to exercise their God given power and pray for the pandemic to become a thing of the past and God will solved this problem for us.
According to him, “elimination of coronavirus in Nigeria and around he globe” is the main cure prayer topic for this season of lent that he is focusing on as a prayer topic, so that it will become history like a seasonal thing, just like malaria and other diseases. “if we pray with a guanine heart, God will hear us”.
The lessons we can draw from the lent is that it is a period and a time of remembering the baptism of our Lord Jesus Christ, discipling ones self to be closer to God, as we fast according to the old testament and new testament Christians, as well as washing of the disciples feet, showing love to one another this are the experiences of Jesus Christ while in the wilderness are all fuse in.
“this period, we should love one another and live in peace, and over look peoples short coming”.
The clergy lamented that there are many fake Christians and fake Muslims in the country who do not keep to the tenets and obligations of their religion, as this time of lents, is supposed to be a time Christians discipline the flesh but the opposite is the case.
“it is a period of self discipline, not trying to satisfaction the desires of the flesh”, he said.
“Some of my friends withdraw from me because I cannot give them beer but soft drinks and so they left me, they accused me of drinking women’s drink. and so they cannot come to my place anymore”.
He gave instance where he lived in Sabon Garri, of how so many Alhajis will drive down to the hotel down town in Kano near where he lived to drink beer and sleep with women even when they are fasting, he said such is wrong.
