• Ekiti people’ll decide what to do with him –SGF

From Taiwo Amodu, Abuja

EKITI State Governor Ayodele Fayose has raised the alarm over an alleged plot by the Presidency to destabilise his administration and ultimately, remove him from office.

Addressing newsmen yesterday at his residence in Abuja, Fayose fingered a legal practitioner, who he said is an indigene of the state and top officials of the President Muhammadu Buhari administration, as masterminds of the plot.

In a swift reaction, Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Babachir David Lawal denied any plot to undermine Fayose’s administration.

Lawal told Daily Sun that Ekiti people, not the Presidency would decide what to do with Fayose at the appropriate time.

“Why would I or the presidency bother about impeaching Fayose? Did we vote for him? Why should we bother ourselves? I was not one of those who voted for him in Ekiti State. Let the people decide what to do with him.”

Regardless, Fayose alleged that top chieftains of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and functionaries of his government have been pencilled down for arrest and indefinite detention by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) under the guise of investigating financial sleaze and source of funding of the June 21, 2014 governorship election won by his party in which was the candidate.

“A few days ago, we had it on good authority that, there was a meeting with some politicians from Ekiti State, including an Ekiti-born Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) and self-professed rights activist, with the agenda, solely, on how to bring down my administration as the governor of the state.

“Certain top functionaries of Ekiti State Government and some important members of the PDP in Ekiti State, and some associates of mine, have been pencilled down for arrest and indefinite detention by the EFCC under the guise of investigating funds spent by the PDP on governorship election in the state and the presidential election.

“The game plan is to detained indefinitely those to be arrested, forced to make statements incriminating me and, at the same time, feed the public with orchestrated, fake reports.

“The plot is to arrest and detain, indefinitely, my Chief of Staff, Chief Dipo Anisulowo and four members of the state House of Assembly for treason.

“To achieve this plot against the government and people of Ekiti State, we have been informed that some of their trusted allies in the EFCC have been mobilised to move to Ekiti any moment from now.”

Fayose expressed concern over what he perceived as selective arrest and trial of chieftains of the erstwhile ruling party for corruption and asked the anti-corruption agency to investigate the source(s) of Buhari’s campaign fund.
