Comptroller of the Nigerian Customs Service (NCS), Kano/Jigawa Command, Mr. Matthias Abutu, charged the newly promoted officers in the command to rededicate their energies and commitments to the overall goals of the service. He gave the charge while decorating the officers:
“Every new rank comes with a higher responsibility and duty, hence the need for the promoted to understand their new roles and be in a better position to discharge them efficiently and effectively.” He reminded the officers that they had earned their promotions through dedication to their jobs, adding that they should continue with hard work as the system was poised to recognize and reward hard work.
He said the command would organise a three-day retreat for the promoted officers, to focus on capacity development and the official requirements of their new ranks.
One of the promoted officers, Deputy Comptroller Ahmed Tijjani Abe, assured the service that the officers would live up to the expectations of their new ranks, saying that they were fired by the promotion to work harder and drive the service to greater height.
Apart from Abe, five Chief Superintendents of Customs (CSC) were moved up to the rank of Assistant Comptroller. Also affected was the Public Relations Officer of the command, Alhaji Dambaba Isah, who moved to the rank of Assistant Superintendent of Customs 1 to Assistant Superintendent of Customs 11.
There were scores of officers in the Inspectorate cadre whose ranks were aligned to their appropriate ranks in the Superintendent cadre in line with the Federal Government circular abrogating the dichotomy between holders of HND and those of Bachelor’s degrees.
