RIVERS State Governor, Nyesom Wike, has inau­gurated a Judicial Com­mission of Inquiry into the violence/killings that nega­tively affected the March 19 rerun legislative elec­tions, with a charge to the commission to get to the root of the matter.

Wike, while swearing in the members of the Judi­cial Commission of Inquiry under the chairmanship of Justice Monima Wenike Danagogo, yesterday, de­cried the violence witnessed during the rerun elec­tions, saying that it was necessary to ascertain the root causes with a view to checking a recurrence in the future.

He charged the commis­sion to identify those in­volved in the killings, the victims and the scope of vio­lence during the elections.

The governor also charged the commission to iden­tify property damaged in the course of the violence and the owners of such property.

Responding, Justice Dan­agogo assured the governor that the commission would work without fear or favour.

Meanwhile, at least four persons were killed in a gun duel between soldiers and suspected members of cult groups in Oboburu commu­nity in Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area of Rivers State.

Three of the victims were suspected to be cultists, while the other was a law-abiding citizen of the com­munity.

Daily Sun gathered that the the shootout between soldiers and the cultists last­ed for several hours, which has caused residents to des­ert the community.
