RIVERS State Governor, Nyesom Wike, has inaugurated a Judicial Commission of Inquiry into the violence/killings that negatively affected the March 19 rerun legislative elections, with a charge to the commission to get to the root of the matter.
Wike, while swearing in the members of the Judicial Commission of Inquiry under the chairmanship of Justice Monima Wenike Danagogo, yesterday, decried the violence witnessed during the rerun elections, saying that it was necessary to ascertain the root causes with a view to checking a recurrence in the future.
He charged the commission to identify those involved in the killings, the victims and the scope of violence during the elections.
The governor also charged the commission to identify property damaged in the course of the violence and the owners of such property.
Responding, Justice Danagogo assured the governor that the commission would work without fear or favour.
Meanwhile, at least four persons were killed in a gun duel between soldiers and suspected members of cult groups in Oboburu community in Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area of Rivers State.
Three of the victims were suspected to be cultists, while the other was a law-abiding citizen of the community.
Daily Sun gathered that the the shootout between soldiers and the cultists lasted for several hours, which has caused residents to desert the community.
Responding, Justice Danagogo assured the governor that the commission would work without fear or favour.
