Sokoto state government is to provide free feeding and other assistance to the less privileged persons during the fasting period.

Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal made the pledge through a statement issued on Sunday on Sokoto, by his spokesman, Malam Imam Imam.

The governor said the gesture was in view of the prevailing economic situation in the country.

Daily Sun report that the free feeding programme for vulnerable people was inaugurated by the immediate past administration through the State Ministry of Religious Affairs.

In the statement, Governor Tambuwal stated that “Agreed we are all feeling the effect of the economic crunch, but government will partner rich individuals and charity organisations willing to step in to help extremely vulnerable persons and groups to ease the burden on them during Ramadan.”

“The intervention is part part of our social contract with the people, and adequate machinery has been put in place to ensure that it reaches those those in need at the appropriate time,” the Governor added.

He urged members of the public to increase their acts of worship and assistance to those in need.
