All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State has urged the electorate in Rivers South-East senatorial district to vote against the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in this weekend’s re-run election.

The APC said voting against PDP would serve as punishment for denying the area the opportunity to provide a governor for the state and scuttling the cleanup of Ogoniland.

The party in a statement issued yesterday by its state Chairmen, Dr. Davies Ibiamu Ikanya alleged that former president Goodluck Jonathan, based on the advice and influence of Chief Nyesom Wike, then minister of state for education, kept the Ogoni cleanup document duly approved by local and international stakeholders, in his locker until he left office last May.

He said: “PDP against general opinion that the South-East Zone ought to produce the next governor of the state in view of the fact that both the West and East senatorial zones had produced governors for eight years each, fielded Governor Wike as governorship candidate to the disadvantage of Ogoni people.”

The party appealed to the electorate to vote for all APC candidates in the re-run election as appreciation to President Muhammadu Buhari for his kind gesture in “approving the immediate cleanup of the Ogoni communities and ensuring that the zone is properly compensated through the appointment of Dr. Dakuku Peterside as the director general of the Nigerian Maritime and Safety Agency (NIMASA).
