The Governing Council of Yaba College of Technology (YABATECH) has forwarded three names to President Muhammadu Buhari to pick one as the rector of the institution in 2023.

The three names submitted to the president are chief lecturers from YABATECH and unlike the university; Buhari can pick any of the names as the new helmsman of the college.

At the end of the interview that lasted for two days, Dr. I.A. Abdul of the Department of Mechanical Engineering came in first, followed Dr. Lauretta Ofodile- the Department of Bio-Science and Dr. Okesoto Oyebamiji- the Department of Urban and Regional Planning placed third.

The entire governing council led by Prince Lateef Fagbemi met on Friday to ratify the outcome of the selection board interview.

Unlike the university, the three names would be forwarded to President Muhammadu Buhari to choose the chief lecturers as the new rector of YABATECH.

Thirty interested applicants applied for the position, two professors, eight senior lecturers from the university and 21 polytechnic chief lecturers among them were 13 chief lecturers from YABATECH.

The Education Report gathered that based on the new Polytechnics Act, which specifies chief lecturers as qualified applicants, the governing council did not shortlist the eight university dons that applied for the position.

The Education Report learnt that two chief lecturers, who were not happy with the selection exercise left in annoyance before they were interviewed.

The two chief lecturers are from Federal Polytechnic Ede and Ibadan Polytechnic. One of them described his experience as terrible.
