He said the attempt to kill him and his household was to put a stop to the liberation agenda, an agenda he said is divine to give his constituents new leadership.

While thanking God for saving him and his family from the war-like situation that lasted for a few minutes, he appealed for calm on the part of his supporters, saying that God has saved him and preserved him for a purpose.

He said he had earlier reported the matter to the Agbor area command of the Nigerian Police of some suspected movements and presence of some foreign elements in his community.

The Area Commandant, ACP Cordelia Ikejiani, who visited the scene, assured the protesting indigenes of Umunede community that the police would carry out thorough investigation to fish out the culprits.

Some indigenes of Umunede, the hometown of the APC candidate, had trooped to the street in protest against the attack on the home of their illustrious son.

But Ikejiani sued for peace, adding that only peace can guarantee an environment that will promote healthy growth.
