Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide has urged the Federal Government to immediately open a window of discussion with the Mazi Nnamdi Kanu-led Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB.
Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro, Secretary-General, Ohanaeze Ndigbo worldwide, said this on Thursday while reacting to Kanu’s acquittal by the Appeal Court.
He advised the Federal Government to “resist the temptation of appealing the Court verdict on the illegality associated with the abduction of the IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu in Kenya and his illegitimate extradition to Nigeria.”
He added that the Federal Government “should be mature enough to know that Kanu’s victory is ‘a no victor no vanquished verdict’.
“The best way for the Federal Government to reconcile with Biafra agitators should be through dialogue, they should kick-off the process of reconciliation by not appealing Kanu’s victory. This will guarantee a window of opportunity for IPOB to dialogue with the Government. This is the rarest chance in history to end insecurity challenges in the South-East”.
The Ohanaeze scribe observed that this would be in line with President Buhari”s commitment to end insecurity and handover a more United Nigeria in 2023.
“Dialogue should be the next phase and options for the Federal Government to achieve peace in South-East, Igbo leaders are ready to accompany Kanu to Buhari for genuine dialogue, it’s up to the Federal Government to do the needful,” he assured.
In a related development,Ohanaeze Ndigbo worldwide has assured Federal Government that some eminent Nigerian leaders are ready to bring Nnamdi Kanu to the table for profound dialogue but Federal Government should stop playing the Ostrich,” there should be an appetite for dialogue on the side of the Federal Government but unfortunately they are yet to explore this option, this is the minimal protocol for genuine peace to return to Nigeria, especially in the southeast”.
Nigerians are attentive to know the Federal Government’s reactions now that IPOB Leader Nnamdi Kanu has expressed in writing his desire to be released so he can lead other Southern agitators with eminent statesmen and Patriots to heal Nigeria” Nnamdi Kanu has written to President Buhari, it’s a good step and Federal Government should know that the mood of the nation needs healing, they must choose these openings to restore peace and security in the southeast, Igbo leaders are ready to help Federal Government to hold Kanu to fulfill all treaties in the interests national healing and reconciliation”.
We are happy to know that Federal Government is now weighing options regards to the verdict that favors Kanu, instead of appealing they should opt for dialogue with a commitment to restore normalcy and end Sit at Home in the southeast, there will be good results if the Federal Government declines on the option of appealing to Kanu’s verdicts and opt for dialogue, which will solve the hardship associated with restiveness in the southeast but appealing the judgment will fasten unpleasant errors that will not be favorable for Nigerians, the consequences of the option to appeal will be destructive “.
