From Kemi Yesufu, Abuja

THE House of Representatives may have decided to conduct a further review of the 1999 Constitution piecemeal.
Deputy Speaker, Lasun Yussuff disclosed this development yesterday.
In a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Wole Oladimeji, it is hoped that the piecemeal approach will make the process faster and allow for presidential assent
To that end, the Ad hoc Constitution review committee will meet today with legislative consultants and legal experts to brainstorm on reasons the Fourth Alteration Bill by the Seventh Assembly was not assented to by former president Goodluck Jonathan.
Yusuff said with the new piecemeal method, sections of the Constitution, which need to be amended, would have been concluded and assented to by the president.
“The review exercise would be presented to the president in piecemeal manner and not as single bill as was done in the Seventh National Assembly.
“In other words, bills on the same subject matter would be presented to the president as a single bill.
“So, at the end of the day, the committee may come up with four or more bills to be presented to the president for assent.”
