The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has distanced itself from the stand of Igbo leaders andover the issues of restructuring the country.

The Igbo leaders and Ohaneze Ndigbo had reportedly settled for restructuring of Nigeria instead of the actualisation of a sovereign state for Biafra.

Director of Information of the pro-Biafra group, Mr. Ndubisi Anaenugwu, disclosed this to newsmen in Nnewi after an executive meeting, on Wednesday. He said that his group insisted on self-determination, to have Biafran nation, saying that the issue of restructuring had been overtaken by events.

He insisted that Ohaneze and other Igbo leaders would not force the group to remain into a 50 years marriage as one nation “that has not been working.” He said that the quest for Biafra was their inalienable rights as an indigenous people.
On the forthcoming November 18 governorship election in Anambra State, he said his group would not boycott the election but would only give one hundred support to any party that had included self-determination in its election manifestos. He said there must be documentary evidence to that effect.

He alleged that the All Progressives Congress (APC) had perfected plans to rig the governorship election in the State through heavy deployment of security agents to Anambra to instill fears in the minds of other party supporters, indiscriminate arrest of faithful of other political parties and accuse them of being involved in election malpractice, and a plan to write results before conducting the election.

“Customary Government of the Indigenous People of Biafra is ready to die with anybody who wants to rig the election. And we must not boycott it because we would be protecting the interest of the party that recognises us. This is our declaration,” he said.

Prime Minister of the pro-Biafra group, Engr. Anthony Aniebue, explained that the group was not known for violence but would apply the necessary strategies to ensure that the election was not rigged. He declared that the group would only recognise any political party that recognized the Biafra ideology.

The group confirmed the formation of Biafra Students Union Government in four tertiary institutions in Nigeria. A President of the union in one of the higher institutions in Nigeria, Comrade Anene corroborated it.
