Rivers Angels have emerged champions of this year’s edition of the Women’s Aiteo Cup.

The Rivers Angels defeated Ibom Angels 3-1 on penalties in the final played in Jos yesterday.

Rivers Angels’ Cynthia Aku broke the deadlock in the 48th minute, but the lead only lasted for few minutes before Glory Ogbonna grabbed an equalizer in 53rd minute of the tie. Both teams, however, settled for spot kicks after failing to outwit each other in the remaining minutes of the regulation time.

Meanwhile, Ibom Angels’ Reuben Charity was adjudged the Most Valuable Player, while Super Falcons and Rivers Angels’ goalkeeper, Tochukwu Oluehi went home with the Best Goalkeeper of the tournament award.

Rivers Angels pocketed N10million, while Ibom Angels got N5million as runners up.

The Rivers Angels victory ended what would have been a double for Akwa Ibom State.
