Rivers State University (RSU) has placed ban on all forms of indecent dressing within the university premises.

The order, which was an internal memorandum from the institution’s Registrar/Secretary to Senate, to the President of Students Union Government (SUG) and all students, was sequel to a memo presented by the Committee of Provost and Dean’s, and was considered by Senate at its 291st Regular Meeting held on Thursday, September 29, 2022.

In the internal memorandum issued by the Registrar/Secretary to Senate, S.C. Enyindah, on October 19, 2022, captioned: “Ban on indecent dressing by students on campus”, the institution prohibited wearing of “spaghetti gown” and short skirt above the knees by female students.

“I am directed to inform you that Senate has banned indecent dressing by students on campus with immediate effect.

“By this ban, it is now prohibited for any student to dress the following way on campus: colouring of hair by both male and female students; sagging of trousers by both male and female students; wearing of earrings by male students and nose rings by female students and wearing of tattoos by both male and female students.”

Others included wearing of ankle chain and long eyelashes by female students; wearing of gown/blouse that exposes the navel or breast by female students; wearing of tattered jean trousers by both male and female students, as well as  wearing of bathroom slippers or bum short to the classroom.
