At least three persons have reportedly lost their lives in two separate accidents along Asaba axis of the Benin-Asaba-Onitsha expressway.
This is coming barely one week when about 23 persons were burnt to death in a multiple accident at Abudu town along the expressway. One of the latest crashes which claimed the life of the conductor of a Mercedes Benz 911 was said to have occurred at midnight in front of MTN head office, Asaba along the road. The driver of the ill-fated 911, laden with wood, was attempting to avoid an on coming vehicle when he swerved into the road divider. Although the driver survived, the impact of the crash on the concrete road divider led to the death of the motor boy (conductor).
Delta State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), Mr. Rindom Kumven, who confirmed the crash, could not, however, confirm the second crash which was said to have claimed two persons.
The second crash, which occurred yesterday morning by Asaba Airport on the expressway and reportedly claimed two persons, involved one heavy duty vehicle and a Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV). The cause of the accident could not be ascertained.
