The Movement for Election of Nigeria President of Igbo Extraction (MENPIE) has appealed to the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) aggrieved five governors and their numerous supporters led by Governor Nyesom Wike to join forces, support and endorse Labour Party presidential candidate, Mr Peter Obi, in the 2023 presidential election.

The group urged the five governors who are agitating and demanding justice, equity and inclusiveness within PDP to justify their actions and engraved their names in the hearts and minds of Nigerians and Nigeria by supporting and endorsing Peter Obi who symbolises equity, justice, competence, capacity, capability and inclusiveness.

The Convener of MENPIE, Mr Vincent Ezekwueme, in a statement titled “injustice done for one is injustice done to all and ” no one is free, untill all of us are free”(Martin Luther King Jr.) commended the five governors their steadfastness, courage, doggedness and determination to fight injustices and stand for what is right, fair, just and laudable.

“It is of great relevance to note that Nigerians and the international community are eagerly waiting to see your next line of action. They hope your patriotic, selfless and peoples oriented decisions will help to usher in God-fearing, competent, selfless, incorruptible leaders in 2023.

“The name of members of G5 which includes Gov’s Nyesom Wike of Rivers state, Samuel Ortom of Benue state, Seyi Makinde of Oyo state, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu state, Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia state will forever be written in gold and stand of times of having contributed immensely towards rediscovering our dear country and enthronement of patriotic servant leaders in tandem with wishes and aspirations of our founding fathers.

“It will be recalled that the aggrieved governors and their supporters have been demanding the resignation of National Chairman Dr Iyochia Ayu following the emergence of Alhaji Atiku Abubakar as its presidential candidate.

“There is no doubt their request is worthwhile and justifiable in tandem with the party’s constitution, federal character and principle of a rotational presidency and social justice as both presidential candidate and National Chairman cannot come from the same zone.

“Fortunately Obi’s candidacy provided a veritable and ineluctable platform to right the wrong, and ensure justice, equity, equality, inclusiveness and a sense of belongings in electing our political leaders. Let the interest, social welfare of citizenry, unity, security and progress of our country be their watchword and guiding principle in taking a final decision in regard to the 2023 general elections.

“It will be of great relevance for them to display in words and actions what former Senate President Late Dr Chuba Okadigbo called political sagacity and intelligence in order to ensure justice, national cohesion, interest and integration which is in tandem with patriotic request and demand of the party chieftains.

“We equally most passionately appeal to all patriotic Nigerians to join in the crusade to take back and rescue our country through electing God-fearing, selfless, capable and competent leaders during the 2023 general elections,” Ekwueme stated.
