Ahead of the People Democratic Party (PDP) primaries beginning from Wednesday this week, the Wushishi local government chapter of the party has endorsed a veteran Journalist and former Chairman of the Nigerian Union Journalist (NUJ) in the state, Comrade Iliya Garba for Wushishi Constituency at the Niger State House of Assembly.
Comrade Ilya’s endorsement took place at the party secretariat on Saturday when he met with the party delegates ahead of the Wednesday party primary election.
The PDP Chairman, Wushishi Local Government Area, Alhaji Ibrahim Maigari while presenting Comrade Iliya before delegates, asked them to make a commitment towards his Aspiration, and the delegates overwhelmingly endorsed the aspiration of Iliya Garba as the candidate that can win election for the party at the general poll.
The Chairman therefore urged the delegates to be upright as the Party prepares to hold its primary election on Wednesday, 18th May 2022.
He appealed to the party faithful to stand by their promise, stressing that under his (Chairman) leadership will continue to carry every members of the party along to ensure the succes of the party.
He pointed out that the party needs candidates that win election at all levels “because PDP must wrestle power back from the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) in 2023”.
Addressing the delegates, Comrade Iliya Garba told them that he came into the race to contribute in his little way to the upliftment of the Constituency through youth and women empowerment, stating that he will not compromise in improving their wellbeing through equal representation.
Comrade Iliya Garba said his aspiration to represent the good people of Wushishi constituency was tie to his love and passion for the progress and development of Wushishi Local Government Area at the legislative chamber of the State.
While commending the Party men and women for their loyalty to PDP and sacrifice for the past seven difficult years which according to him, spurred his decision to vie under the umbrella of the party, the former NUJ Chairman assured that he would galvanise his journalistic experience to propel Wushishi Constituency to selfless representation at the House of Assembly.
While assuring the Veteran Journalist of their unalloyed support, Wushishi PDP Woman Leader, Habiba Ashiru, urged the Comrade Iliya Garba to prioritise youth and women empowerment if elected stressing that Wushishi LGA have a number of unemployed youths hence the need to provide them with opportunities if given the mandate.
