Darkness descended on Kenbanger village, near Senga in Katsina-Ala Local Government Area of Benue State Wednesday, as armed robbers attacked a sleepy settlement, killing 10 persons and   injuring five others. The incidewnt occurred at 7am.
Among those shot dead were a woman and two of her children, including an eight-month-old baby. The other child killed, was eight years old.
Reports said the robbers raided the settlement from Gbishe, a village in the same district, in a reprisal attack a few hours after two suspected members of their gang and a lady who allegedly harboured them were killed by a mob at Senga, a community bordering Kenbanger, while three others escaped.
The three robbers who escaped mob attack, mobilized other members of the gang at Gbishe, home of the alleged wanted kingpin Terwase Agwaza, (alias Ghana), and raided the settlement.
However, one of the bandits who was among those on the reprisal attack whose name could not be ascertained at Press time, but said to be popularly known as ‘Chemical’, was killed.
The corpses and  those injured were evacuated to hospital.
The state  police command’s  spokesman, ASP Moses Yamu, confirmed the incident saying police were on the trail of the robbers.
He said, in a statement, “on Wednesday September 14, 2016, a five-man gang of the notorious criminal “Ghana,” who was declared wanted and a five million (N5 million)  reward placed on him went to rob at Senga village, an interior part of Katsina Ala LGA where an irate mob lynched two of the robbers.   One later identified as “Chemical” (not real name)  and a lady harboring them were also killed, while the other three escaped to Gbise village and mobilized for reprisal.
“On return, they could not gain access to Senga village because the youths had mobilized to protect their area.
“The robbers anchored at Kenvenger village which is next to Senga village, shot and killed on the spot 10 persons,” he said.
