SUSPECTED armed robbers, numbering about five, yesterday, raided the Anthony, Lagos home of the Vanguard publisher, Mr Sam Amuka. The robbers after beating the old man, carted away undisclosed amount of money.
Daily Sun gathered that the Octogenarian is currently receiving treatment in an undisclosed hospital.
It was gathered that the armed men, stormed Amuka’s residence at about 1:30am.
The gunmen, scaled through the fence and overpowered his private security guards, who they tied hands and legs.
The hoodlums after subduing the security guards, broke through the ceiling leading to his private room. One of the security guards after rescued by the Police, said: “I saw five armed men scaling the fence. I confronted them, but they overpowered my mate and I. they tied our hands and covered our faces. One of them kept vigil on us, while four others went inside the house.
“The robbers spent about one hour, ransacking the house. When they finally came out, they ordered us to unlock the main gate, they zoomed off in their vehicle.
Lagos State Police Public Relations officer (PPRO), Dolapo Badmos told Daily Sun that “yes, it is the truth. The Vanguard Newspaper publisher, Mr Sam Amuka was attacked by suspected armed robbers. When the Police receives a distress call, we quickly mobilised but the gate to the street was securely locked. The robbers had escaped before we arrived the home.
“Well, our men rushed the man to the hospital as he was complaining of pains. He was beaten up by his attackers. We are suspecting his domestic staff, because a similar incident occurred four years ago, while he was planning a trip to South Africa. This one again, he was planning a trip also to South Africa.
She boasted that the Police would soon unmasked the perpetrators of the dastardly act. She said the management of the State Police command, led by the Commissioner of Police, Mr Fatai Owoseni, visited the scene.
She said Mr Owoseni has assured Mr Amuka’s family that the Police would soon pick those who attacked him.
A Police source who spoke on the condition of anonymity said 10 persons, including some domestic staff and private security guards have been arrested in connection with the attack.
The Police source said the suspects have been transferred from the Anthony Police division to the Special Anti Robbery Squad (SARS), Ikeja, following the order of the Inspector General of Police (IGP).
