Super Eagles’ Coach, Gernot Rohr has confessed that he is happy to see his captain, John Mikel Obi back playing in England, because he believes playing in the English Championship is better than being in the China.

Though Mikel is now playing second-tier football with Middlesbrough, which he joined last month, Rohr opined that the English Championship is of a higher standard than the Chinese Super League, where the Eagles captain played two years for Tianjin Teda. The Franco-German gaffer reckoned that the veteran midfielder needed top quality football on a regular basis for him to remain relevant in the Nigerian national team.

Rohr said he was glad to see Mikel held his own pretty well in his first two games for Boro and the Eagles’ gaffer believed his skipper will get better as the days go by.

He added: “I think the championship has a better level than China, it is good for him to play now. We will see now if he is becoming fit, if he is ready we’ll meet him, speak.”
