The Super Eagles of Nigeria on Monday in Yaoundé Cameroon, held the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon to a draw in the second leg of the Group B World Cup Qualifier match.
The Super Eagles who were ahead of the Indomitable Lions had a glorious chance to win the encounter which would have given them the ticket for the 2018 World Cup, but they blew it away when they conceded a penalty.
Cameroon playing with great home advantage, started the match aggressively after losing the first leg encounter 4-0 to the Super Eagles in Uyo Akwa Ibom State South south Nigeria. Nigeria went ahead in the 30th minutes when Chelsea striker Victor Moses combined well with Odion Ighalo to set up Gent forward Moses Simon who wasted no time to score. Cameroon struggled in the first half to level up, but Super Eagles goalkeeper Ikechukwu Ezenwa prevented Cameroon severally getting a goal. The Indomitable Lions now fighting serious to redeem their image as African Champions came out stronger in the second half, and they almost got their goal in the 50th minutes when Olinga Fabrice fired a powerful shot which was well saved by Ezenwa. They however got a breakthrough in the 75th minutes when they were awarded a penalty after a collision by Ezenwa and Vincent Aboubakar was considered a rough tackle by the match officials.
With the outcome of the match, Nigeria still leads group with 10 points in 4 games, and the Super Eagles will only need two points for them to qualify for the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia.
