Emmanuel Adeyemi, Lokoja

Former senator, who represented Kogi West senatorial district, in the National Assembly, Smart Adeyemi, on Wednesday, distributed trucks loads of rice and other food items to members of his constituents  for the celebration of the eid-el-fitri festival.

Adeyemi also gave cash donations to certain individuals  while clothing materials and cash were also given to some widows, orphans,  and other category of people across the seven local government areas that make up the district.

He was welcome to  Lokoja by thousands of his supporters who  thronged out in a long motorcade causing serious traffic gridlock in major highway’s in the state capital.

Sen. Adeyemi, overwhelmed by the mammoth crowd, however, expressed shock  at the level of the people’s turn out who he said came out willingly without any form of mobilization to welcome him.

The outspoken senator later alighted from his SUV and joined the crowd of supporters to board an okada who took him round the major streets of the state capital.

Addressing his supporters at the ward D in Lokoja metropolis, Adeyemi urged the people to continue to support president Muhammad Buhari and Governor Yahaya Bello in their second term bids so that they  could consolidate on their various achievements.

He said among all the  presidential aspirants so far  jostling for the presidency, President Buhari stands shoulder high than any of them because of his integrity and unblemished record of service to the nation.

He also commended Governor Yahaya Bello in the area of providing adequate security of lives and property  in the three senatorial districts of the state and his efforts in repositioning the civil service, among other achievements  and said if given a second term he would do more.

In a chat with newsmen, Adeyemi, who declined to comment on whether or not who would re-contest for the senatorial seat, in 2019, however, said he was encouraged with the turn out of the people and the various encomiums he was receiving from the common man in the street some of who he said he has  positively touched their lives while he was at the Senate.

The former president of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) expressed satisfaction that most of the motions and bills he sponsored while at the Senate are now being given prominence by President Buhari.

He said among the bills he sponsored was the recognition of Chief MKO Abiola as the winner of the June 12 election, the construction of rail lines across the six  geographical regions of the federation, and his front line view in  fighting corruption to  a standstill , among others.

Sen. Adeyemi who described politics as religion, said he was always in distress each time he sees people suffering , a situation he said would not make him quit politics now.
